Memory Problems

Memory problems and various forms of dementia care require sensitivity and smarts. Education can give you tips and techniques to strengthen both of those. A new educational series is starting in July entitled “Dementia Caregivers Education and Support”. It is designed to make caregivers and friends of people with memory problems more effective and less stressed. You are invited to talk one or all sessions.
All sessions are free. Pre-Registration is required.

Session One – Dementia 101 * Dementia101 – You will learn what dementia is, some of the causes, how to identify and reverse some of them, which ones aren’t reversible and what to expect as the dementia continues. July 15, 10:30 AM

Session Two – Managing Difficult Behavior * You will learn the principles to apply when inappropriate and difficult behaviors are displayed by dementia challenged people. How To Effectively get them to do what you want them to do. August 12, 2024

Session three – Caring for the Caregiver * Learn Proven methods to cope with the challenges and stress in the caregivers mind, bodyand soul. September 9, 2024

Session Four – Getting Your Affairs In Order * Learn about the documents and information everyone needs to have on hand to effectively manage and avoid problems regarding legal, financial and medical matters. This is critical for caregivers but very applicable for non-caregivers. October 14, 2024

Session Five – HowTo Pick And Pay For Help * You will learn the various care options available, questions to ask before you engage them, and alternative financial resources. November 11, 2024

Session Six – To be determined * December 9, 2024

The instructor, Mark Croft, seeks to support, educate, counsel, coach, and provide resource information for caregivers. In addition he is a Florida Certified Long Term Care Ombudsman who investigates complaints and advocates for residents in Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities and Adult Family Care Homes, and is a volunteer with Hospice. His training includes Chaplaincy Service, dementia and hospice training. Experiences include direct caregiving for his wife, Director of Chaplaincy Associates at Howard County Hospital in Columbia Maryland, facilitator of support groups, developing instructional series and lectures.

Each class date requires a separate registration. Please feel free to register for all classes you can attend. You may need to be on the waiting list but often there are cancellations so don’t hesitate to register even if the class is full. If after registering you find you can not attend please withdraw your registration so those on the waiting list can attend.
